If you’re donating a bicycle and need to provide the tyre size, you can easily find this information embossed on the side of the tyre. Tyre size is important as it helps us ensure the bike is suitable for its new owner.
Where to Find the Tyre Size
The tyre size is printed on the sidewall of the tyre, usually in the format AA x BBB (as shown inside the yellow box in the second image).
- AA represents the diameter of the tyre in inches.
- BBB represents the width of the tyre in inches.
How to Read and Measure It
- Look at the sidewall of the tyre – you’ll find a set of numbers such as 26 x 2.1 or 700 x 35C.
- The first number (e.g., 26 or 700) is the tyre’s diameter.
- The second number (e.g., 2.1 or 35C) is the tyre’s width.
If the numbers are worn out or hard to read, you can measure the diameter by placing a tape measure across the wheel from one edge to the other, passing through the centre.
Refer to the image below – the tyre size is located inside the yellow box.
